Important Shop News!

Effective Tuesday, May 25 I will be closing my Website temporarily for a total redesign.

I am really excited about the new design and I am looking forward to creating something that is clean, elegant and less fussy than what I have now. I estimate that my website will be closed for about a month.

I’ll also be working on new lines and styles of jewelry that will be premiering with the new website. Until then, you can still shop for some of my jewelry pieces over at my outlet shop on Etsy…and of course, I’ll still be blogging here. ~ xoxo ~ Joy

Find Me In Artful Blogging!

I have fun news to share with you today! Last year my friend, Gabriela Delworth, hosted a fabulous Marie Antoinette Fete on her blog. It was a wonderful party full of history, glamour and Marie creations made by a number of artists, who were featured in her blog event.

The event caught the eye of Stampington editors who wanted to feature the party within the pages of Artful Blogging! I am tickled to be included with a number of other artists whose creations were also featured in the article.

Chicken Love

I was cleaning out a kitchen cabinet this afternoon and decided to snap a few photos of my favorite vintage chicks.

I’ve collected vintage chickens for years now and have them tucked all over the kitchen.

For a very long time now, I’ve wanted to have real chickens….don’t ask me why because I really can't explain it.

I did not grow up with chickens, but I think it would be pretty cool to have lady chicks roaming the yard. Unfortunately, living in an urban setting, we are not zoned for poultry….so, no chicks allowed.

Although I am willing to take the risk, Mr. Cupid is not. He put his foot down long ago – we will not live in fear of the poultry police showing up at the door.

So for now, the only Yard Birds allowed in the yard are made of wicker, not feathers.

But a girl can dream....

Working With Antique Lace

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and enjoyed sweet festivities for Mothers Day.

I made some progress over the weekend on creating a number of antique lace jewelry pieces. Working with antique lace is tricky business…the lace wants to dance around as I snip ever so carefully and capturing just the right design in the lace can be difficult too.

I have many pieces of gorgeous lace with the most romantic patterns within the pieces, but when you snip such small pieces, most often you lose the perspective of the pattern. So it takes me a bit of time to find just the right spot to use. And once you start snipping, the ends start to fray and you can loose part of the design. There are little tricks I have to employ to make sure the pattern and the threads stay put. These really are little pieces of history and my intention is to try and preserve the lace in its original state…..and since I’ve imported all this antique lace directly from France, these pieces are all the more special to me.

Happy Friday!!! Fresh picked from my garden this morning…pretty little flowers to brighten your day.

I’m looking forward to a creative weekend in the studio making French lace jewelry with freshwater pearls. I recently came upon a supply of the most beautiful pearls in the softest shades of beach colors…creamy whites, soft greys and a romantic rosy brown taupe color. These beauties will be headed for the website next week so stay tuned!
